Lecture Series

Lectures are organized throughout the year, and they are free to all OLLI members; members are also encouraged to register a non-member guest for in-person lectures, as a one-time sample of OLLI’s member programming. Speakers have included U. of I. faculty, community members, and scholars and artists from across the country and around the world.

Free lectures have always been a rich opportunity to discover new subjects in a one-time educational experience. In 2018-2019, OLLI organized and hosted more than 50 lectures.

Some recent lectures have included:

  • • The Crisis of Local Media: The Vanishing Community Newspaper
    • Falling in Love with Mary Jane: An Overview of the On-Again, Off-Again Love Affair with Cannabis
    • Four Strategies of Terrorism
    • Addressing the Structural Challenges of the University of Illinois Library’s Historic Buildings and Their Collections
    • How Are Illinois Birds Faring
