Lecture Series

Lectures are organized throughout the year, and they are free to all OLLI members; members are also encouraged to bring a non-member guest. Speakers include U of I faculty, community members, and scholars and artists from around the country and around the world.

Free lectures have always been a rich opportunity to discover new subjects in a one-time educational experience. In 2015-16, OLLI organized and hosted more than 60 lectures; more exciting events are planned for the coming year.

Some recent lectures have included:

  • • Nuclear Power: Dispelling the Myths
    • Zika Virus Everything You Always Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
    • First Listen: A Review and Sampling of Dee Dee Bridgewater’s “Dee Dee’s Feathers”
    • Landscape Art as Ideology: Discovered Lands, Invented Pasts
    • Preserving Illinois’ Legacy of Knowledge in All Its Forms
